The lid has a raised star on top. This is made of glass so I'd think you could use it to store food in. Extras: BP200 Glass Mailbox SOLD #28  BP200 Glass Mailbox This mailbox is the neatest thing I think I've ever come across!! The dimensions are: 6 in. wide x 3-1/2 in. deep x 11-3/4 in. high. Molded into the glass on both sides reads: U.S. MAIL. It has 2 hinged lids. The top one is solid & the 2nd lid has a slot to drop mail in. They both flip up so you can retrieve your mail. I have one hanging on the wall next to the front door. What a great place to put messages for each other or a place to put out going mail!
